Spotify On Symbian Arrives: Music Streaming Service Comes To Nokia Phones (And More)
by Ernest Doku
The hugely popular digital music service Spotify unveiled their latest bid for aural domination today, an application that allows Symbian powered handsets unfettered access to millions of songs.
The application, already available for the iPhone and Android devices, enables Symbian phones to stream music over 3G and Wi-Fi, store tracks for offline playback and listen to tunes whilst texting or browsing - provided users are fully paid up Premium members at a cost of £9.99 per month.
With over 20 Nokia phones supported - including the popular Nokia 5530 and 5800 XpressMusic - as well as Symbian phones from other manufacturers like the Samsung i8910HD and Sony Ericsson Satio, this application brings the popular streaming service to a new demographic of mid-range handset owning music lovers.
This opinion was echoed by Spotify's head of portable services, Gustav Söderström:
“Many mid to high-end Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung phone owners might be surprised to realise they can run Spotify on their phones. This takes our mobile music offering to a totally new level.”
Where this leaves Nokia's own beleaguered 'Comes With Music' service, also available on the afore-mentioned Nokia devices remains to be seen...
Simply go to http://m.spotify.com/ on your phone's browser to download the application, but don't forget that the Spotify app is for Premium subscribers only...

With the Nokia N900 unable to emulate Symbian support, it's a shame that the Maemo-driven powerhouse will not be able to take advantage of this new service. The introduction of limitless music would make the portable computer an even more alluring prospect...
I know this is not exactly as smooth as the official S60 client, but Spotify _is_ available on the N900. More info here: http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/10/23/qt-de-spotify-running-on-a-nokia-n900/

That's pretty decent! And with Maemo Select, there's every chance that could appear in the community apps section when developed a bit further!
