Apple Dashboard Widgets Coming Soon To Nokia
by Darla Mack
The most that we've seen regarding an iPhone like device from Nokia was that brief clip during the Go Play event in London. Rumors of a touch UI has been around the net for quite some time as well. Now, according to articles from T3 and NokNok referencing to Forum Nokia, the porting of Apple widgets will be available to the S60 OS.
I find this interesting. Since I don't know much about Apple and their widgets I guess I would have to be a mac user to completely understand whether this is a pro or a con.
Forum Nokia has posted docs for developers on how to port existing Apple Dashboard widgets to Nokia Web Run Time using WebKit open source. There are also instructions on how to create from scratch.
"Learn how to port widgets built for Apple’s Dashboard to the S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 Web Run-Time (WRT) platform. Step-by-step examples take you through the process of converting Dashboard-specific features to the WRT mobile domain. Complete examples with full source code are provided in a separate ZIP file delivered within this documentation package."
No specific device has been mentioned as of yet.
Hi Darla,
As a mac user I would consider this a pro. There are several times lately, when I wanted to do a certain task on my N95 that I can do on my mac's dashboard only to realize, I am not on my laptop but on my mobile. And that my mobile does not have dashboard widgets.

I second this as a pro. Having the same widgets on desktop and mobile is great.
