Which Series Are You?

by Darla

I recently became the owner of an E61i.  Previously I used an E62 or at least tried to.  I couldn't get around the fact that Cingular had crippled it so much so it became less appealing to me.

Nokia_nseries_2 I am curious though, as to where the Eseries models are going these days?  If you compare the marketing between Nseries and Eseries, Nseries comes out on top... but does this mean that there aren't many business users interested in the devices?

I've seen the popularity of the E62, E61 and E61i grow due to the fact that it entices Crackberry and Treo users to open themselves up to a Nokia device with QWERTY keyboard.  Even actor/director Spike Lee was interested, which led him to the Nokia Flagship store in NYC asking for the "Nokia Blackberry".

Even though QWERTY is cool I find myself stumbling at the keypad.Nokia_eseries
Lol this is amusing because I use a QWERTY on my laptop and it kills me that I can't maneuver my way around a device!!

While in Chicago I got to check out Phil's E90 for a few hours and even though the device is sleek as heck it just wasn't me.

There really aren't any major differences between S60 OS.   Maybe just the differences in software for business users, but Nseries did tap into a few of the Eseries apps with the N75.  Apps such as the Message Reader and Speech app were only seen on Eseries devices but were included on the N75.  Once again... why not just make them downloadable for all.

So, which series are you and why?  If you've switched, then what was your reason?  Where do you see the future of Eseries?  Inquiring minds wanna know!

To me there are only two "real" E-Series phones: E61/61i/62 and the E90. E50, E60, E65, E70, to me are all just more or less regular S60 devices with little tweaks. And I would be willing to bet 10 cents (hey, I am not rich) that most of the latter at least were actually bought by good old individual consumers, not Enterprises.

So why not make the Nokia Enterprise offering more (not necessary only) about applications/software/business solutions/support? Integrating cellphones to the company phone system. Remote locking/security. Push email. Database access. Whatever. And let the Entreprise decide wich S60 phone they want to use them on. I may (probably am) missing some issues that would arise with giving so much choise to the Enterprises of course.

And limit the E-Series hardware to Qwerty phones (or whatever formfactors and hardware (e.g. big HDDs perhaps, or something else) that clearly speak to Enterprise needs).

I own a Nokia E61i, the E61 prior to this knocked my 1 year old Treo 650 out of my hands, and also have a couple of evaluation Nseries devices. It is a tough decision to make between the two because I really like and am very fast at typing with the thumb keyboard on the E61i. Then again, I love the multimedia aspects of the N95 and the cool design. I guess I would have to say that I am an N/E series fan and still can't decide which way to go. I grab the device I need for the situation I plan to be in.

For example, if I know I will be getting lots of email and having to respond then I'll take the E61i. If I am going somewhere with my daughters then I would take the N95 to take photos and video. How about a Nseries with a slide out QWERTY keyboard? Then I'll be a solid Nseries guy.

I think there should be no N/E series, all apps that run on N even run on E and viceverca. Now if a phone does not have radio does that mean its E, I think thats the only feature not present in E50 to make it N. Ya there is this group something feature but I am sure that would work on all N series too. They came out with E61i, why would one go for E61/E62, now again the only feature thats not present in E61i is the radio which distinguishes it from N. Is it like business people dont use radio or business people should use E at office and N otherwise. E series phones have good cameras, good mp3 playback, realplayer , we can install smartmovie etc... So whats the diff between N & E , that radio.

I switched from Windows Mobile to a Nokia E65. Waited for the N95 but ended up with the beautiful red E65, and I am happy with it! The reason why I choose an E-series instead of the N95 is mainly because synchronization with an Exchange Server appeared to be a problem with the N95. Besides: when I finally got it in my hands the N95 dissappointed me a bit while the E65 felt just great. I wanted a slim and good looking device that could do about everything - the E65 is perfect for me!

I'm definitely an e-series guy. I actually liked the E62, but the java crippling does suck quite a bit. I'm hoping to save up enough money to check out an e61i soon...but being a S60 lover in the U.S. is expensive business! :)

I've flip flopped on this several time, but in the end I think I'm more of an E series type of person... to the point where I'm not trying to sell some gadgets to get my hands on an e61i. My e61 was one of the phones I've owned the longest, and the only reason I gave it up was lack of a camera. Once you get used to a qwerty, t9 never feels quite the same (and I'm FAST on t9!).

Basically, being more messaging/web focused, I think the E series fits me better (since I"m less multimedia focused on my phones).

i've got an E65 and a N95 at the moment and quite frankly, there's nothing i can do on one and not on the other (except for the obvious 5mp camera), Seven push email works great for what i want it to do and GPS is no biggie when paired with a BT unit on the E65. I was tossing between the N95 and E61i, but got the former coz it was on offer with my operator. It would have been many sleepless nights if both were available as I would love the QWERTY on the e61i

PhoneBoy

I carry both an Nseries device (N95) and an Eseries device (E61). I use the Eseries device for Push Email (Intellisync). The Nseries device handles pictures and all my media. I use SyncML with our Intellisync server to get the contacts/calendar to my N95 also.

I'd love a device that's got the best of both the Nseries and Eseries worlds. The E90 might be that device for me.

I'm like you PhoneBoy... I carry both the E61i and the N95. Of course I find myself using my N95 much more, I still feel the need to at least familiarize myself with the E61i. I haven't used the camera yet, but it makes retrieving my emails much easier.

It just seems that for such a catalog of Business devices what is the point of separating them by series? It would be much easier to incorporate some of the applications either downloadable or preinstalled for Nseries users.

I have an N80ie, and I don't consider changing to E-Series. Or maybe I would, for an E90 :)I just hate other Es'designs.

Well here's wishing to become a first time Nseries user. I waiting to read your next mystery question to begin my first experience will the N76. Like a lot of people I'm dying to get an iPhone (sight unseen...sorry). But given my priorities that is not going to happen this year. You could bring me into the game with the big N and Eseries boys and girls so I can twitter, jaiku, and tumblr all while checking email, calender events and talking to my mum!

Darla,

You say you carry both devices...do you have two SIMs with different phone number or do you swap sim card between devices depending on the "per need" basis? I have a silver sim card which can be programmed but only older sim cards were capable of being cracked so if I'd use two devices I'd have to either flip sim between them or have two separate accounts.

@Maciek,

Yes I have 2 different SIMs. T-Mobile and AT&T.

I have owned a N70, N73, N93 and now a E61 and have just bought a N95, to answer your question I think the N Series are more Multi Media focussed smart phones that are capable of handling business apps but are not great for entering large amounts of Data they are better suited for viewing E-Mails and Documents with the occasional response if really needed. Where the E61 with it’s full qwerty is better suited to all Data intensive tasks and can handle Multi Media with above adequate abilities. The build quality as mentioned by many before is also of the highest quality although so have been my N series devices especially the N93 and now my N95 as it seems I am lucky as my slide is perfect as is the screen and casing.

I was also considering the E90 prior to my N95 purchase but decided I would be better off especially financially getting the N95 for all my Multimedia needs and using the E61 for everything else. My N95 still carries all my Calendar, Contacts and E- mails but only through syncing as I really wouldn’t want to have to enter large amounts of data on it it’s keypad. Rather than carrying the larger E90 all the time I believe I have the best of both worlds with my two devices and when not needed can get away with just the N95. Well that’s my opinion hope you find it of interest.

Seriously, what is so alien about having a multimedia phone with QWERTY? It's so frustrating to see software on the N series phones not be compatible on the E simply for marketing reasons. Make an N series with a *real* way of entering text and I'll totally be there.
