Well its Official - Cingular Changes its Alpha Tag

by Darla

Well its official, originally uploaded by DarlaMack.

I received a text message this morning from Cingular alerting me that tomorrow my alpha tag will read AT&T instead of Cingular.  Now while this really means nothing to me, it seems to be a big deal to some people.

I would gladly like to replace that alpha tag with my own display name instead of my providers name.  Ah remember when that used to be so easy?

When I was a Cingular customer (circa textamerica.com), just before AT & T bought Cingular, I frequently got AT & T on my phone's display. After they bought Cingular, it stuck. I guess it was only for some customers? Or maybe just on unlocked phones (I have never had a branded phone). I assumed they would eventually start displaying AT & T on all customer handsets. It's always good to confuse the customer! ;-)
