An Unkind Slider/Call Flaw in the N95
by Darla
Maybe its just me and I haven't found the setting yet, but since this is my 2nd slider I can only compare it to the N80ie. When using the N80ie and having the slider open during a call, all one had to do to end the call was to close the slider... or of course press the end button.
I've noticed that the N95 doesn't do that. Lol, whats sad is that I keep forgetting that. A few days last week I had been using the N95 without my bluetooth headset and just closing the slider after a call. After a few minutes of call idleness and assuming that the person on the other end of the phone has hung up, the N95 will flash "call disconnected". DOH!!
Now I could be imagining this all together, but I could have sworn that this feature is/was available in the N80ie... someone please correct me if I'm wrong. BUT... wouldn't it be a nice thing is the option was in fact available for the N95?

Hey Darla :)
I can see where you are going with this and I could not agree more. I own the N80ie and the issue you brought up got me to check on my own phone. I can not see that this is supported (at least not in the new firmware) perhaps they have pulled the feature??
I just thought I should let you know, or maybe it’s just my phone that doesn’t have this?
By the way; Great blog Darla :)

Being a dual slider, it will be impossible to open the top slider when in call if closing the bottom slider will make you end the call. This is multitasking at its best, because you might need during a call to switch between sliders, (you can actually play music to your caller that way).

Hey Darla,
Thanks for the heads-up on this. Had not really run into that yet. I am an "off-button" maniac. I have always ended a call with an off-button due to the fact that in an early use of mobiles I did not press the off-button and talked quite candidly about the person I was just talking to. I lost my job over this. So an off-button for me everytime.

I've never understood this about my own N80. Sometimes, if I slide it while in a call it doesn't hang up on the caller and sometimes it does. Like, if I "dialed" the number via keypad (rare), I want to slide the phone shut after the call is connected and sometimes it ends the call... other times, it's no worries and the call goes on. I have no idea why but there should be a control for this like when you close a notebook computer (PC). If Microsoft can offer a control over that, Symbian can help us out, can't they?

Yet at the same time this can help prevent you from acidentally hanging up a call by acidentally sliding the phone closed. Perhaps that is their reasoning behind it.

I love that feature about my n80ie . Just slide it shut and the call ends.
@shawn : I'm not sure if its just me ,but if you slide the phone shut before the person on the other end answers,it wont cut the call. However once the person answers and you shut the slide,it will disconnect.Thats how it works on mine atleast :-)

I totally agree with you. This seems to be a major flaw in this phones design. Who wants to try and find a off button to end the call when all you need to do is slide the phone closed.
