Nokia Gets Legal Over The Nokir E828
by Darla
Talk about blatent duplication! Nokia is taking measures to sue all Hong Kong cellphone shops that are selling the Nokir E828. This comes as no surprise to me. I guess they did their best to try and replicate the popular S60 MMC, even down to using the Nokia font!
According to Softpedia, all the shops are asked to submit the existing stock as well as pay a HKD 30,000 ($3870) fine for the damage incurred. Reportedly, the shopkeepers don't quite agree with Nokia's decision and have been trying to get in touch with the Finish company. So far, it looks like they've received no reply.
Although the Nokir E828 supports Touch Screen it lacks Bluetooth. As my girlfriends from back in the day would say... "it ain't all that!"

From that photo it seems a pretty open and shut case! For anyone who thinks that isn't an illegal copy, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you... :-)
Hong Kong seems to be notorious for knocking off other people's products in no time at all. Anyone remember the M-Gage? ;)

Is that illegal in Hong-Kong? The phones look similar to me, but not identical and Nokir isn't misrepresenting themselves (E828 vs N73). I bet the software interface is totally different. I'm kind of on Nokir's side, otherwise where do you draw the line? Are all candy-bar phones subject to lawsuit?

Im with Krisse, Im on Nokirs side...my message to the manufacturers of Nokir, if you want to design less blatent ;) then get in touch with me, I will do it for FREE!..seriously no joke. Woah..see how the E828 is slimmer than the n73 too? in addition to the better nav/ direction keys..touch screen (wonder why they left out bluetooth) anyways Ive seen a lot of Nokias looking rather similar to Sonyericsson products..but hey thats ok! anyway maybe the chinese are giving a hint to nokia ...'you produce something but we can produce it better' or 'hey why dont you take on board what your customers complain about & fix it'-lol
