Forum Nokia Releases RDA For Forum Nokia Members
by Darla
Forum Nokia has released an amazing developer tool for its members. Remote Device Access allows developers to test out applications by use of a java emulator. As you can see I've chosen the E65.
Remote Device Access (RDA) technology enables remote access to mobile devices over the Internet. The system consists of a device pool connected to a server, and users connecting to the server in order to remotely use the devices. Once a user has connected to a device, the screen of the device is transfered to the user’s desktop in real time. In addition, the user can install applications on the device, transfer files, and analyze log files in real time. This enables developers to test their mobile applications and services on various Nokia devices based on Symbian OS. RDA is an Internet-based solution, and the requirements for using the service are a standard Web browser and Java™ Web Start (typically comes with Java Runtime Environment, JRE).
RDA basically emulates the actual device in real time, which is connected to a remote server. To quote Ricky, this is an excellent way to check out FP1 devices such as the N95 to see just how they work.
Rawsocket has a great tutorial on how to get this up and running... now excuse me while I go play!

A little correction to the article.. It's not an emulator; they are real live devices. ;) RDA provides an interface to remote control them, along with some additional features.

This i great stuff from Nokia, I love these kinds of things. I hope to see this thing come available for remote controlling my own device. But for now I have to go remotely check out my next device, the N95.. :)

Hey guys I had an old laptop running XP Pro. A couple of weeks ago, every time I would connect to the internet via DSL or wireless, the hard drive light would come on - as if it were writing something to the hard drive. It would cause IE to run slower than dial-up. I looked in task manager and although the CPU usage was high, there didn't seem to be a process listed that was using it. I used LavaSoft Adaware to scan on a regular basis as well as Norton 2005. I eventually gave up and bought a new laptop (Vista Home), which now has the same problem. It is obviously related to something that I copied over to the new computer from the old computer. But the things is, Norton Internet security isn't picking up a virus. I used it to scan everything before copying it on to the new computer. Has anyone heard of such a thing or had the same problem? I'd much rather be able to find and remove the problem rather than restore.
Thanks!
