Mobile MySpace Options
by Darla
When Cingular announced that they were partnering with MySpace to offer MySpace Mobile for their customers, I was the least bit intrigued. I'm sorry, but Cingular's past history with me proves that anything they offer can't be good. Then again it could be the fact that I refuse to use "Cingular only" devices.
However, giving them the benefit of the doubt I decided to try it out anyway. Unfortunately, it could only be installed on a "Cingular device" so I downloaded it onto the E62. Of course they had to add a $2.99 monthly pricetag for this... why I have no clue. But luckily there are other options out there.
First let me say, that even though seeing the mobile application was cool, I did find out where the flaws were, at least for me. I noticed that once you login to view a profile you get an error message IF you happen to have a lot of scripts on your MySpace page.
Now, some great (and free) alternatives for accessing MySpace are out there.
First we have the MySpace link on Opera Mini. As you know Opera Mini basically renders full site pages into a format that fits the screen of your device. To me this option is great, but a bit cluttered. I haven't tried it but I do think with Opera Mini you can view MySpace videos. If anyone wants to give that a try and let me know that would be great.
When visiting profiles on all of these options you won't hear the selected music chosen by the user but thats ok.
Before Cingular's MySpace app came out I was using T9Space.
T9Space is a portal that allows you to access MySpace, FaceBook, Craigslist and any other website. Just point your web browser to www.t9space.com and then select which site you would like.
In my opinion its not as cluttered as the Opera Mini option , but then again if you are only checking out your profile and comments then this would be great. You can view profiles, leave comments and check your inbox.

Reading Xen's blog post this morning I came across another option, which also includes a download for the java app. VCellspace.com allows the same features as the rest including viewing profiles, leaving comments and checking your inbox. The Vcel java app does that as well, but with the addition of the MySpace widget you can let your MySpace viewers know your away status and mood. Unfortunately, the java app isn't currently available for all handsets but hopefully this will change in the future. I was able to download the app for the 6102 supported by Cingular, but it doesn't show on full screen on the N73, obviously because its not for that device... but I just had to check it out!
So, there you have it. Easy access to MySpace via Mobile without having to pay that $2.99. :)

Is myspace as popular in europe as it is in the states?

Hmmm, I'm not really sure. I do have a few friends on my buddylist that are in the UK, so I would assume so.

It is really popular over here, although there's anecdotal evidence that the 'cool kids' who originally fuelled it have now moved elsewhere - on to Bebo for example, and other sites.
