Nokia's Music Recommenders Preview

Looks like Nokia will have its Music Recommender site up and running shortly.  But eager people such as myself wanted to check it out.

You need to use Internet Explorer 6 or above in order to use the site.  Unfortunately, US residents can not take advantage of full downloads but I do hope that changes.

via Press Release

The new web-based Music Recommenders service from Nokia works like this. Each month, specially chosen music experts from forty independent record stores around the world make a selection of the best tracks in their genre of expertise. These selections are then emailed to subscribers, who can browse through the tracks and listen to short 30-second clips. In this way music lovers open themselves up to the best music of all genres, including hip hop, indie rock, jazz and Asian pop, without having to spend time trawling through the crowded racks of a music store.

In addition to receiving these monthly selections, subscribers can use the service to search for tracks according to recommender, genre or style; listen to other music clips and read weekly artist interviews; browse city music guides; and go through information on the stores and recommenders themselves.

As you can see the site layout is very clean and easy to navigate.  I thought that the release date was November 1st but I could be wrong.  If you want to take a glimpse for yourself go to www.musicrecommenders.com.

It looks like a very nice idea.

Unfortunately the current service is very limited.

1) It doesn't support Firefox. Only Internet Explorer is supported.
2) The supported country is very limited. Currently, it supports the UK only.

It's a smart strategy to create a one stop shop for mobility -- we do tons of research on mobile companies and so many of them really are single applications -- but when you bundle applications it becomes more viable as a business, and I think a better value proposition both as a stand-alone and an acquisition/partner target. We've looked at EQO extensively and overall are very impressed.
