N91 Missing QuickOffice
by Darla
This is sort of a follow up to my previous article. Since writing that I received an emailed press release stating that QuickOffice is supposedly shipping pre-installed in the Nokia N91 (as well as others but there aren't reported issues of the app missing.)
According to the Press Release (see next page), N91 users should recieve their devices with QuickOffice software preinstalled. I've tested 2 different devices both US and UK models that happen to be missing the software. The press release also states that the software is also available for download but the website states that a compatible version for the mentioned S60 devices won't be available until 9/1.
One could usually depend on the Nokia site for missing or downloadable software for their devices but looking at both Nokia's European and American site QuickOffice is not present.
Anyone else missing the app from their N91's?
Dallas, Texas - July 28, 2006 - Quickoffice, Inc., the leading provider of innovative computing solutions for the mobile business professional, today announced its award-winning software shipped on nine new Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobile phones during Q2, 2006. Now, millions of new users have fast, easy and reliable access to their native Microsoft(r) Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, even while away from the office.
Users of Nokia's recently announced E50, N71, N72, N73, N80, N91, N92 and N93 phones, as well as Sony Ericsson's M600i, now receive Quickoffice software included on their new devices. The growing list of phones shipping with Quickoffice software reflects the company's successful relationships with Nokia and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (SEMC), who are among the largest handset manufacturers equipping mobile business professionals with Quickoffice products. The software is also available online at www.quickoffice.com.
Quickoffice enables users to open, view, edit, create and share Microsoft Office documents, in their original format, directly on their smartphones. Benefits of the software include a rich user experience, proven ease-of-use, and highly reliable data integrity and content preservation without the need for desktop conversion or synchronization. With Quickoffice, users can access important documents, such as contracts, business plans, sales presentations and financial reports, via their smartphone, allowing for increased mobility and productivity.
"Nokia and Sony Ericsson are established world leaders in mobile communications," said Gregg Fiddes, Quickoffice's VP of Sales and Strategic Partnerships. "By consistently selecting us as a technology partner and providing our software to users of their atest, cutting-edge mobile devices, they acknowledge Quickoffice as the leading mobile office software suite. We are thrilled to continue our distribution relationship with these world-class manufacturers as they develop and ship new phones, enabling uninterrupted productivity for millions of mobile users worldwide." Quickoffice was named Nokia's first annual 'Developer of the Year' in 2005. For more information on Quickoffice and its products, please visit www.quickoffice.com.

There is another office program available - MobiSystems OfficeSuite. I saw it before several months and since then I use it, actually for free. First on my old 6600, and now on my new E70 (there is a different version for S60 3th edition). The program costs about fifty bugs, but when the trial period expires it still works as a document viewer.

Hi Darla,
Just bought an N91 in Spain without Quickoffice. Will check the update at Nokia site on September 1. Would be nice if you could write something on vcard compatible import/export software from desktop to the N91.
Any experience with managing contacts from desktop to phone?
I cannot import my approx. 300 filtered contacts to my phone. I tried several methods but none seem to work:
I had to pay 2.80 E through SMS to download Best vCard 1.00 (S60) - http://yahoo.softonic.com/ie/51216/Best_vCard - and realised it doesn't install the file - and that's anounced on Yahoo! - and I tried this VcardWizard for Microsoft Outlook - http://vcardwizard.4team.biz/ - trial without succes :-(
The N91 S60 OS doesn’t accept .sis files to install.
Apperently I need to upgrade to iSync 2.2 to be able to handle that on my Mac OS Powerbook. I keep you posted when done.
Any suggestions yourself?
Cheers. Rudy.

Hi Darla,
Well, I have bumped into the same issue with N91. There is however a simple workaround. Go to N80's support page on http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4149142 and download the version compatible with N80. This works also on N91. I installed that .sis file successfully without any problems on my girlfriends N91.
Rudy -> I didn´t get where you had the 300 contacts right now that you want to import to N91...(and in which format the currently are in)

Henrick,
Thats what I actually did. It was included in the "previous post".
Rudy, I'm sorry I can't help because I don't use a mac, but I'll try asking around for a solution.

No, the office software for N80 doesn't work on my N91. Also the site of quickoffice has postponed their availability of this software. This is frustrating really. N91, though is good on first use, it is beset with problems like 'theme installation' etc. Themes downloaed just does not get installed, even if installed on phone memory. some issue really. any help?
