Flickr Uploader Tool for NSeries

by Darla

Nokia_n72_screens_conf_2 Flickr now has their uploading tool available for the N72 smartphone (also compatible with the N70 and N90).  The tool allows you to upload images to Flickr right from the built-in Camera and Gallery applications.  As you can see on the Flickr site there are more devices "coming soon".  But in the meantime we do have alternatives.

Shozu is the first and most popular choice.  Its free, its easy, and compatible with many sites other than just Flickr.

Incorporating Flickrs settings into your Nokia Lifeblog app for both phone and PC is the second option.  Info on setting up your Lifeblog to post to Flickr can be found here.

Don't forget Zonetag, from Yahoo Research. It can upload pictures right after taking them and will add nifty location information.

I prefer Lifeblog, or even plain ole' MMS, to Shozu to send my photos first to Flickr then on to my blog. I found Shozu to be too clunky, didn't always work, and it added on extra text. I would be even happier if my Movable Type blog would accept direct posts from LifeBlog or email (alas and alack, Martin Hingham's MT Lifeblog plugin only worked for me for 2 days and has not worked since).

I have only a 6 mb data transfer allowance a month with my worthless carrier and am now the proud possessor of the N80, thus I am using MMS to not bankrupt myself with data overage. The N80's photos start at 1 mb in size...

The big question with Flickr's uploader for the NSeries, is can you limit the size? Or does it take it as the original size? The second option would not work with my current data plan...Waiting to go back to my AT&T/Cingular SIM chip in the States with unlimited data plan... ;o)

I believe the Nokia Flickr uploader does allow photos to be sent at reduced size. LifeBlog and ShoZu also support this option.

ShoZu for S60v3 (e.g. the N80) is now complete and Symbian Signed, and will be available for download from www.shozu.com soon.

Andy, keep me posted... can't wait to try it out on the N91!

I found lifeblog too bulky for just sending photos to flickr, so I prefer shozu. I don't like that it tags them all "shozu" but otherwise it works great.

the uploader in the newer phones is ok. it's nice that it's integrated now. yet, i think nokia missed the opportunity to really bring in what the other uploaders were doing:
- it adds some good management, but the upload form is kinda klunky.
- you can't tag before uploading.
- and some other minor gripes i have.

i still like lifeblog in comparison, since i can rotate ad send multiple at a time. i am looking forward to the day when (if) lifeblog also uses app integration.

the flickr uploader can also post to typepad, but you have to manually enter the info (i think i wrote something about it on my site).

and yes, it also allows you to send smaller images (original, medium, small).

chris heathcote also has an overview of uploaders:
