Nokia's First Pink S60 Phone
by Darla

It's been a bit hectic for me since the last time that I blogged. I think maybe I'm still in shock over the Nokia N72 announcement. At first I was sort of bugged about it, but after reading an article on Phil's blog I kind of agree that the N72 might just be a great multimedia device. 2nd edition software has been around for quite some time now so it would seem to be more stable and readily available. 3rd edition software is either still in development or a bit buggy and needing tweaks.
I can say that Nokia definitely shocked me by making its first Pink S60 phone (milestone moment). I've heard the jokes, received the im's and emails and yes I actually do like the phone. Although its features isn't that of the N80, which is what I'm longing for, its still on its way of being an excellent Nseries device.
Rafe at AllAboutSymbian made an excellent summary review of the N72 which enlightened me a bit. He answers the question that I as well as many others have been wondering... why is the N72 2nd edition and not 3rd?
So why is the Nokia N72 running S60 2nd Edition rather than 3rd Edition? The answer according to Nokia is 'development time scales'. The N72 will have been in development for some time, indeed it is likely it is a fork from the development of the Nokia N70. At the inception of the N70/N72 S60 2nd Edition would have been standard software. This also explains why the N72 will be available very shortly, in June 2006, it is that little bit further along the development path.
The Nokia N72 is scheduled to go on sale in June for around 320 Euros in various markets worldwide, including the Middle East and Africa, Russia, Eastern Europe, mainland China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.
I agree that its definitely on its way of being an excellent Nseries device and despite my previous gawks and icks about it, I could actually see myself using this phone... besides... it matches so nicely with the Pink HS-26W.

correction (though it might not count): the 7610 had a really nice soft pink cover add-on from nokia.

Charlie, you are absolutely correct!! I was happy to see the pink cover, although I never got a chance to own that phone.
