Nokia N91 Delayed Due To DRM

by Darla

N91_small Nokia has confirmed that its N91 Music Smartphone has been held up due to DRM issues, reports The Register.

"Nokia's Pekka Pohjakallio told us last week in Barcelona that adding Windows DRM was the primary cause of the slip. That confirms what Nokia executives said when the delay was acknowledged last Fall."

As you recall, the N91 was due to be released Christmas 2005 but due to the issue it instead it promoted the N70.  Which I'm sure many people were happy about.

this drm stuff is worrisome. i'm a hacker and choose nokia phones because they are WAY more open. nokia's been great but it looks to me like they're slipping away from what made them great (in my eyes). all i can say is i am glad that i got my N90 because I fear the next generation of nseries & series 60 phones will not be as open. we'll see.
