Take This %$$@*^ PC!!
by Darla
Ok, as you know I've been having PC issues for the past couple of weeks. First things first... DON'T EVER DEAL WITH EMACHINES!!!!! Yeah, I know someone probably had told me that before I spent the $699 on a new desktop back in October, but I didn't think I was gonna have this much trouble and what sold me was the fact that it had a 6 slot built in card reader.
Got a not so friendly error message while trying to boot windows and called their Tech support to see what kind of help I could get. Now the thing is, the error message was self explanatory... basically I could just repair the file with the windows start-up disk (which wasn't included in my package). So, I called to find out how to repair and why the disk wasn't included. The Tech Rep told me that I had to call Microsoft to obtain a Recovery Repair Console disk... huh?
Ok, so the next chapter begins... I call Microsoft and plead my case and explain to them that I was told by emachines to contact them. Fortunately, I got a rep that did not charge me the $35.00 consultation fee and opened up a case for me. But I still needed an actual WinXP Home Edition disk... which I was told by Microsoft that they had licensed to Emachines so that they can offer them to their customers with the purchase of their PCs (which of course I did not get). He also stated that this was an issue that they were having with Emachines and several of other customers dealing with the same issue. One word in a nutshell from the rep... SUE!! Well at first I wanted to get my issue resolved, so as you can see I am back up and running with the semi-resolved PC issue. Come to find out that my hard drive is damaged. Odd since the pos PC is only a year old!!
So, this morning, while on the phone with my dear friend Jaron (for over an hour) we decided that an iBook would be the perfect thing for me. Going over the specs and the price I found that it isn't going to be as expensive as I thought it would be. I don't know why I was never tempted to jump on the mac wagon. Even when Russell Beattie tempted me with his trip to the Apple Store to get his mac mini, I double-thought the idea. But now it makes sense to me. I have 2 desktops, both not worth a hill of beans, an IBM Thinkpad 770z that makes one hell of a paperweight.
Some changes have to be - and are gonna be made within the next few months.
