Virgin Mobile Radio - The Worlds First 3G Player!
by Darla
Virgin Mobile along with Sydus Mobile have teamed up and brought us the world's first 3G radio player. As I'm typing this I'm listening to "Hit the Road, Jack" by Ray Charles on the Virgin Radio Groove channel.
I've been listening for about an hour now (the phone told me that the battery was low!) and I have to say that it is indeed a good rotation of music. Some new, some old school and the classic R&B which I love. Brings me back to the Jackson 5 days, which ABC was played also! I'm glad to finally see that I have at least one good reason for keeping the $19.99 plan that I have.
Russell Beattie also favors the app quite well as mentioned on his blog and he also makes note of the sensible warning regarding GPRS that comes with this app.
The application is available for FREE (thats right) on their website or via wap at http://wap.virginradio.co.uk/ For T-Mobile US users that are fortunate enough to have the $19.99 unlimited internet plan, you might wanna check this out.
Virgin Radio is also giving UK residents the chance at winning the Nokia 6630. See here for details. The competition ends March 11th.

I am using it now, I too have the unlimited Cingular internet. One thing I found with the 6620 if you navigate from the program using the "back" button it starts to "skip". go back to the program and everything works fine. Go figure.

Mike,
I've noticed that also with the 6630. But still the app rocks!! I can overlook that flaw!

I am in AWE of TMobile. First, they block the Streaming ports so RealPlayer and Helix don't work and they don't tell anyone. I took me about a month of calling before they admit it and then they say "It's for Security". Now 3 months later, I just tried it for a lark and low and behold IT WORKS. Again no announcement, It just works. I guess all the cyber terrorists using streaming media to subvert our national security have all been rounded up by Tmobile security teams. Guess I shouldn't compain since it is working. I wonder if verizon's shrinking of basketball players had anything to do with it.

Wow!! Thanks Bill for keeping me posted on that. I wonder how long the ports will remain open?

Hi from Sydus Cru,
First of all we would like to thank all of you who have supported us [Virgin Radio+Sydus] in giving your comments and feedback.
Based on comments and some irritating bugs that we have discovered, we have come out with an updated version of the application. It is available on our website www.sydusmobile.com/download.html and soon it will also be updated on the Virgin site.
thanks again for your support. Happy Streaming!
