Turning Your N-Gage Into a Card Reader

by Darla

One of the advantages of having an N-Gage is the USB connectivity via cable.  Unlike the phone browser that comes with the newer Nokia PC Suites, it doesn't give you the full list of whats available on the mmc.

Using your N-Gage as a mmc reader for your pc or lappytop is very simple and no pc suite is required.

  1. Simply put in the mmc that you wish to read.  Don't worry if whats on there isn't compatible with your N-Gage.
  2. Once you power up the N-Gage plug in the cable to your USB port and then connect your N-Gage.
  3. If this is the first time that you've connected your N-Gage to the pc you will see the "found new hardware" message on your taskbar.  If you are running WinXP it will automatically add the new hardware for you.
  4. Locate your "My Computer" icon, which is usually located on your desktop and double click it.
  5. You should see a little storage icon that says "N-Gage" in the view screen.
  6. Open it up and there are all the files that you wish to view.

Very simple, and much cheaper then having to go out and purchase a card reader.

Darla, any reason this shouldn't work on any S60 phone, if you got a cable for it?

by the way, just got the 6620, and i'm LOVING it! :)

Hmm I don't see why not. Although I personally wouldn't mess with a non OEM cable. The reason that I used the N-Gage as an example is because it comes with its own cable. The 6630 does also. Not quite sure if the QD does or not.
